my first birchbox

A few days ago I received my first birchbox:) If you keep up with my blog you'll know I got really interested in subscription boxes about 2 months ago, and Glossybox was my first one. Obviously I want to try many different kinds out (I mean, I'm a sucker for travel sized things even if they're only one time samples. Especially by cute brands like Tigi and Urban Decay etc. that is my taste) so I signed up for the Birchbox wait list about four-five weeks ago, got invited approximately two weeks and a half weeks later and promptly received my box after that. I forgot to fill out a profile for them to pick the products best suited to me for me however, I have no complaints this box hit all the bases with me which rules at a measly $10 shipped;).
The first photo of my little collage is a photo of the whole box and the things in it, namely the Klorane Gentle Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk. The full size is $18 and I got a travel size, which is perfect because I just started going to a lot of summer music festivals where camping is involved. It smells AMAZING especially for dry shampoo, and the aerosol gust it emits is so powerful that it immediately makes me feel cleaner (placebo or not I definitely like to feel clean). I was super happy to get this. The next photo is of the sample of Paul and Joe Beauté Moisturizing Foundation Primer which has an SPF of 15. The little bottle is so adorable and again, perfect for me...but mainly because I don't really use primer. It makes my face feel odd (full size: $35).  Next I saw the little spray sample of Isaac Mizrahi's "FABULOUS" perfume, which is now almost gone because I like it so much ;) the full size is also cheap; anywhere between $20 and $69 the Birchbox pamphlet reads.
After that, I sampled eye cream by Supergoop! that has an SPF of 37 and is "anti-aging", not a unique trait of an eye cream but man I just love eye creams theyre so overpriced and promise such good things (who doesn't want to deflect signs of aging?!) that I consider dropping upwards of $200 for a few ounces of the stuff-BUT ONLY FOR A MINUTE.[ EYE CREAM IS A CRAZY WHACK INVENTION WITH A TERRIBLY HIGH PROFIT MARGIN FOR THOSE WHO MAKE AND SELL IT.] HOWEVER, the full size of this eye cream/sun protectant is only $45. What a surprise, right?!

Lastly, I noticed a few ketchup lookin packets that were full of lotion and of course rejoiced some more. I like when beauty products talk about, boldly, on their packaging, oats being in them and therefore fortifying them organically. It's a more entertaining thought to think of than any other one I might have while applying lotion. It's a mundane task, really, unless you have interesting creams. And now I do lol.

OVERALL RATING OUT OF 10
price ($10 shipped): 9
quality (med): 7.5
professionalism: 9
packaging: 9

I am definitely subscribing to next months Birchbox! :)

& expect my second Glossybox review later..it's out for delivery :P

GLAMOUR SHOTS OF SOME OF MY RECENT HAULS [mostly thrifted]

***ALMOST ALL OF THIS IS THRIFTED***
  1. (you got me locked inside your) heart shaped box, $2.  the bracelets hanging are not new, but the blue one is a bracelet/rosary (lol) i received for my confirmation at thirteen. however, i am not religious at all. swaying between agnostic and atheist...  and inside I put three of my most color-coordinated Marc Jacobs Daisy .13oz Minis :)
  2. I LOVE MIRRORS and I will buy enough eventually to make walls out of them as they are so damn cheap and beautiful at almost every single thrift store, except the goodwill closest to me lol they think they can charge bed bath and beyond prices for the used mirrors... not wit it yo. Salvation Army is where it's at :)
  3. OK so I stupidly didn't take a picture of the top, but I found a music box ... omg.. I always wanted a tinkling lil jewelry box to play music while I do my makeup lol. The top has a LILAC (my FAVORITE COLOR EVER) FAIRY on it HOW PERFECT IS THAT and it's in perfect working condition and was only $3.  I'm planning on putting a little mirror from Michael's where the polaroids are at; that's my inspiration for ootd's lately. (#cloudkicker #beautilation) It plays the prettiest song, maybe I should make a Vine like all the cool kids and make a video? I think I might install it for the fun of it.. But screw that I hate watching clips and shit ahah when people message me YouTube links on Facebook  I pretty much always am like "cool haha" and never watch them.  Idk, I'd rather be blogging...♡  The ceramic fawn is also thrifted, when I was living on campus at school a year ago at the local Goodwill
  4. I got this adorable OPI zipper bag for like, $3 shipped on eBay. :) It's where I keep all my O.P.I. mini nail polishes :p
  5. Not sure if this is a real Coach wristlet or not, haha it has the Coach logo all over the inside but no signature tag or anything, however it is suede, a nice color and HANDY. $2. The Anna Sui pin I thrifted from Goodwill a few weeks ago, I think it really makes the whole thing pop-as in, the wristlet and pin look really good together. Of course the iPhone and the Victoria's Secret lip gloss was not thrifted but I got the lip gloss by winning an auction on eBay for 2 $10 Secret Rewards cards for only $8 shipped! That was an automatic $12 savings.  I should write more about my couponing/saving $ experiences...
p.s.: all of the thrift store above mentioned are linked to their official websites so you can easily find a location near you <3
p.p.s: you should check out ALL the links cause they're all to good things

cloud kicker part I

Today I'm so casual yet wearing two amazing brands.  I think that fact alone makes this entire lazy sunny sitting-in-the-grass day a little bit chic, don't you?  Gold jewelry (such as the necklace that is too washed out by the sun in my lookbook photo) by Haute1, and the snapback hat by Cloud Kicker.  Oh, and I also happen sell the shorts that I'm wearing in my store.  Proof that they are actually really nice shorts <3 Jansport backpack was snagged at a sale at PacSun last fall when they were all selling everything at half price and then even more discounts came into play so it was only $10.  My boyfriend also has one.  I remember being eight  years old, back to school shopping with my parents,  and begging for a stupid $40 ugly ass Jansport backpack from Office Depot. If only I knew then, what I know now..  The shoes are off white Converses which I've wanted for two years plus and just recently acquired-$25, T.J. Maxx.  I gave up looking for them and they found me.  Top: $10, Target.  I ran out of clean clothes during my vacation out west a month ago and just got an extra pair or single of everything that was lilac at Target.  I hadn't bought anything in a few days.  I was distraught. Target was like heaven.. no way in Pittsburgh I'd buy Mossimo at full price lmao they straight ship everything to Goodwill that's only one black bridge away from me.
Total outfit value (including the hat and jewelry) (slightly weird but I like doing this tally thing when items are all pretty much new) : $115 (the snapback hat is only $28 on their site, and the necklace was within the range of $10-12 on haute1.com)
That's REALLY cheap compared to any of my other outfits (I usually have one designer thing in each one that topples over an "outfit value" too much) but I think there's something extra special about this one, don't you? Maybe my head's just in the clouds..

GLOSSYBOX APRIL REVIEW

~ I've been deathly ill with some sort of flu for the past five days and therefore out of commission ~

This is my first GlossyBox ever! :)
Anyhow, I signed up for this when I randomly stumbled upon birch box and then I realized I wasn't limited to just one subscription box or even type, as these had to be a trend & the birchbox reviews I was reading were quite negative.  (I did still sign up for the birchbox "waiting list (pffft how high class of them I suppose along with the really small samples that aren't worth $10/month they sell) because $10 a month for a surprise package with unknown things in it is not a high price to pay as those things make me happy =] ) I browsed for hours, looking for the coolest and most cost effective subscription box to sign up to be my first subscription box (I know I'm signing up for more especially ones like GlossyBox, which allow you to pay for one month at a time without a huge charge). At the time, I wasn't in a very good mood so I was looking for which box would make me the MOST excited and MOST happy each month lol, so I figured a makeup sample box would be my best bet especially one packaged extra cutely (with a reuseable box of course) (I waste NOTHING) and GlossyBox has the most positive reviews (even though some had me frightened), I signed up for it ($21/month without subscription-you only save a few dollars for being a monthly subscriber) and patiently waited.  This was around the first few days of April, and I got the box at literally the end of the month.  Pretty mucha  four week wait.  I suppose it was good for the surprise factor of it all, however they emailed me with a tracking number which only made me expect it!  I wonder if there's an option to opt out of receiving shipping notifications via email... that would be great because I do think I am going to get next month's box! :)

  1. Wash With Joe ~  "Coffeemint" Invigorating Body Wash [GlossyBox insert FULL value: $28 for 16oz, this is 1oz so I am assuming the value is $2]  :  Uhm, I tried this first (well at the same time as other samples used in the bath).  I was scared to squeeze too hard as I didn't want to use up the whole sample at once.  I used a tiny bit.  Didn't so much free invigorated as odd.  It smells weird to me.  It still will be a good travel product-for others mostly; I'm glad it's unisex.
  2. Le Meteir De Beaute ~ Replenishing Daily Solution [GlossyBox insert FULL value: $225 for 1.7 oz, idk what size this sample was like .03oz? It was in a foil packet. I did tape it so I could use it twice though] :  Okay, when I saw this I started to fear that my first GlossyBox was really a birchbox, lol. I mean it was added sample to the 5, but it really had no value... despite me trying this moisturizer, really liking it, but scoffing at the $225 price tag and throwing away the $75 off coupon. I mean $150 for 1.7oz moisturizer? I'm sorry I'm not bleeding rich and old yet.
  3. BVLGARI ~ Eau Perfume au the Blanc Tea Bag for Bath [GlossyBox insert FULL value: $9.50 for a .5oz tea bag, this was a .25oz tea bag so I'm again, assuming the value of this is $4.25, making the so-far value of the box )that claims to exceed the value of the $21 you spend): $6.25] : This was my favorite item, although it did again give me the suspicion that this was a birchbox in disguise.  I was exhausted the day I received my GlossyBox and was planning on taking a relaxing bath anyway, and fell in love.  I was afraid that I'd really like this product as I'd never want to bathe without one and they are quite expensive (making me either quite broke or very dirty).  So, after this lovely perfumed bath (it really had not much more than novelty or deep wonderful fragrant notes of royalty in the air lol but I'm into that) I decided to eBay to see how cheap I could get them.  So far, I've gotten 6 of the Green Tea version (full size, .5oz)  for $22 shipped! Lol...
  4. The Honest Company ~ Honest Organic Lip Balm [GlossyBox insert FULL size or 3 pack value: $10.95, so I guess this is worth $3.65.  Lol they couldn't give a full size lip balm though? :  I guess this seems really potent for chapped lips.  I just used it and it has no scent and  I don't really feel it unless I rub my lips and it's smooth & goes on smooth. It's really whatever.
  5. TIGI Cosmetics ~ Glow Blush [Finally a full size product! 0.07oz, as I received, is valued at $22 retail ] : I was excited because this was the first full size product I touched out of this box, and its value exceeds the box's price by itself.  However, I'd never pay $22 for just a blush... I don't know, I guess that's what this box is for.  Anyhow, it's bright, I suppose a versatile shade for all types of skin.  I like it.. but I still prefer my Too Faced Love Sweet Love Palette's blushes.  I guess this will be my spare backup for when those are in need of replacing.
  6. Alterna Haircare ~ Bamboo Style Boho Waves Tousled Texture Mist [GlossyBox insert FULL size value: $22 for 4.2oz, I got a .85oz bottle which is worth approximately $4.40 when you do the math on your phone's calculator app lol ] : This is a good size sample. I was happy.  I spray whatever into my hair usually, and this smells good and has a nice texture, so I think I will be using it frequently.
OVERALL OPINION:

I like this box.  Its' total value was: $38.40, obviously excluding their somewhat obnoxious $75 off coupon.  What more can be said about THAT part than there is some obvious price inflation for false generosity via pretentious coupon gifting? Lol. The packaging was beautiful.  I did, as most others that review GlossyBoxes, throw away the paper string stuff even though that was nice presentation.  I loved the colors and the theme of this month which was along the lines of "au natural".  I can definitely reuse this box to hold things and even the outer, shipment packaging came decorated with grey and pink polka-dots. :) I'm definitely going to sign up for next months box-now that the "au natural" theme is definitely out of the way I'm excited to see which of the more daring makeup products GlossyBox has to offer me in terms of the profile I have on there and such, too!

BTW don't forget to enter my giveaway for a $50 online gift card to Haute1!  Their jewelry is exquisite.
